The Summer Territory

Dost stared at the night sky, his amber eyes holding a green glow as his eyes reflected the moonlight. His darker brown tipped tail twitched as he felt a twinge of anger fill his system. He hated the fact that so much time had to be taken in order for him to hold and maintain control over the pack. If it were the last thing he was to do, he was going to take the white fae down with him. That alone could scare the rest of the wolves away; letting a cougar hold the territory like it had been so for many years.

The cougar stood and walked further down the mountain, his light tan fur bristling against the wind that picked up from the north. It was a cold night and the wind bit through Dost's thin coat. As he stepped onto a ledge, his paw hit a rock and set it rolling down the hill. Sitting down again, he started to plot his revenge.

Dost stayed oblivious to the wolf who was below him. She was downwind; he wouldn't have been able to smell her. With his eyes looking towards the stars and full of thoughts, he hadn't seen her. There was so much for him to witness at night but he didn't think that someone would be out so late. Especially when the order had gone out not for anyone to. His intent had been to sneak down the rocky mountain face even more and attack while everyone was asleep before completely disappearing. It was easy really. He was a vicious weapon, one that everyone feared.

A flash of pain seared through Dost's leg. The smell of wolf was overpowering as was the scent of Dost's blood. His amber eyes shone with hate and pain; the cougar felt a vicious drive over power his thoughts. A roar echoed through through the mountain range and the cougar hoped that it would scare the wolf enough for her to release him. The one leg that was free from the wolf's jaws lashed out but he wasn't sure if it caught and ripped her flesh.

"I am Feather,"

Gale nodded to Feather in greeting, not offering his own name. Rather, he stood quickly and headed to the main densite, his white-grey paws stark on the dark green ground. The last thing he wanted was to be trapped in the dark with a stranger; he hurried towards the den site, not bothering to look and see if Feather was following him or not. The beta male wasn't one to make conversation so he just walked in silence with ears upright.

"Is Kanae here?" He asked as he stopped beside Josh.

Some of the wolves around were still looking at Feather with strange expressions, she was afraid she wouldn't be welcome here. Hoping that the alpha would be as friendly as... some of the other wolves. "Kanae," Feather said quietly to herself. She was going to meet the alphess, Kanae, for the first time.

Larka, having found a large stick, most likely broken from a tree, was gnawing on it, her fangs stripping away the outside layer. Held between her paws, her jaws wrapped around the wood, she wore away at it. What she was doing, she honestly had no idea, nor did she care what others may think of this behavior. Her ears twitched, and, releasing her hold on the stick, she lifted her head, noticing Gale with some flame colored she-wolf passing by. Probably searching for Kanae, she concluded, before returning her attention to her stick, once again gnawing upon it. A slight breeze rustled the branches in the low-hanging tree she resided beneath, the sound nothing but soothing to her.

"There. Thank you, Gale. It's not often another sacrifices love to make another happy. You're a true friend and inspiration. I wish you all the best. And if you ever need my help - I'm yours."

Gale's ears twitched as he looked in the direction of the beautiful white fur of Kanae. She was standing with Blue and the two seemed to be discussing something. A prickle in his neck fur made him believe that the conversation was about himself. When Josh started to speak again, the beta male looked back at the lead sentinel and listened quietly. Once Gale was sure Josh had finished speaking, the male shook his great head.

"I did not do it for you." He said coolly. His smoky eyes travelled to Kanae's lean form and back to Josh again. "I did it for her. Everything that I do is in her best interest even though it pains me. Can you say the same?"

Without waiting for a reply, Gale signalled for Feather to follow as he walked to the white alpha. Even as he approached her, he felt his heart quicken. She still held the affect of the increasing heart rate despite his best attempts to avoid her in the passing season. His breath expanded his chest and he exhaled slowly in hopes to gain his composure again.

"Kanae, this is Feather. She requests to join the pack." He reported as he stepped aside in order to let the beautiful alpha a glance at the newcomer.

When the wolf had yelped and released his leg, Dost had been about to spring back and attack. However, the wolf slipped underneath his belly before he could attempt anything. Her jaws sank into his soft stomach, causing a deep roar of pain to erupt from his jaws. A blood haze covered the animal's amber eyes as he let his body collapse onto the wolf in hopes to cause her jaws to weaken their hold. He had the weight advantage; if he remained on her he could possibly cause her own demise. As he lay there, his back claws dug into her exposed spine and raked along it.

Feather lowered her tail in respect for the glimmering white alpha. "very nice to meet you, I don't mean to be rude but may I join your pack? I don't mean to barge in but it seems lovely here. Also if you need a healer, I'm quite handy with herbs and healing." Feather bowed and waited for the she-wolfs reply.

With a snarl and a flash of his claws, Dost leapt off the wolf abruptly; freeing himself of her powerful jaws. His leg bled heavily and he growled when he attempted to put weight on the injury. Now that his right fore leg was disabled, he would need to be far more careful and deal heavier, more ferocious blows in order to throw off his attacker. Baring those sharp canines of his, Dost made the illusion of placing his paw on the ground so that the wolf would believe that he was completely unharmed. His darker tipped tail lashed as he fixed his eyes on the wolf and studied her muscles. The second she was about to move, he would know and therefore, would effectively leap out of the way. Until then, he would attempt to daunt her with his large size and big temper.

When the wolf ran around him, Dost was startled for a moment but then her weight was upon his back and her fangs in his neck. Unable to stay upright, the cougar fell to his belly and sent a shower of rocks down the mountain side. Without his paws to keep him stablized, he began to slide down the mountain and towards a sheer drop. He tried to stand but with the wolf's weight on him, he couldn't; the two of them slid quickly towards the edge.

Dust clouded Dost's vision and made it difficult for the cougar to breathe. The rocks were heavy on his flank and he felt that his fore paw was broken. Squirming, the big cat managed to wiggle out of the rocks and breathed in quickly. His lungs begged for more air but it was impossible. He was suffering from internal bleeding. Soon enough, he would be dead but he wouldn't let his body cease to exist until he managed to kill at least one wolf. With that thought and the last ounce of strength in his body, Dost leapt onto the wolf and dug his fangs into her neck. If she was to kill him, he was going to kill her.

The jabbing of the wolf's claws in his windpipe caused Dost to sink his fangs in a little deeper. However, before he could even get close to a vein or an artery, his vision started to fade. This was it, the cougar had failed in his attempts to restore the land for the rest of his kind. No one would know about his story, only the wolves and they wouldn't be able to tell it right. Only he knew what was going on through his mind and only he would have been able to explain it properly. Now he was just a dying animal, one that was slumped on the wolf's body.

"You will all die like the disgusting scum you are." Dost growled lowly, blood filling his lungs.

With one last feeble breath, Dost spasmed before his muscles relaxed.

The great beast was no more.

Gale's attention was pulled away from Feather and Kanae as the heavy scent of blood teased his nose. He knew this smell and who is belonged to. Looking around, the beta male spotted Katria as she curled around her tree. Blood soaked her fur and the male's eyes widened in alarm. As quickly as he could, he spung on his back legs before racing to Katria's side. Wounds riddled her fur and Gale felt his body shake. While he may not be friends with the guardian, he still worried for her. She was his pack mate and as the beta, it was his duty to protect those of the pack.

"What happened?" He murmured as he began to clean all the blood from her coat. The taste of dirt stained his tongue and he drew back for the briefest moment before beginning to clean once more. "Josh! Get Drake, now!" He looked at Katria. "Stay awake, Katria. Think of Amuro, what would he do without you?"

Larka yawned before rolling onto her back, peering at the world upside down. She was gazing at the tree above her, before a panicked voice had called out: "Josh! Get Drake, now!" She blinked, before rolling back onto her stomach and looking around. She didn't see anyone around in the peaceful glade, nor did she scent anyone, which she found strange. She knew the voice was obviously from the pack, since both Josh and Drake were in the pack. She tried her best to figure out who the voice belonged to, but gave up. Larka got to her paws, slowly stretching before tilting her head in consideration. Should she try to find the owner of the voice she heard?
