The Summer Territory

During the summer, the land is full of prey and life. Predators and prey alike are well fed and able to keep themselves alive during the warmest season. A river trickles through the territory of the Silver Snows Pack winds its way through the area. Pine and spruce trees are the most common form of vegetation though their are some leafy trees like maple and oak. The most often seen prey are elk, deer, rabbits, and caribou. One must never tackle the larger herbivors without back up from three others. Be safe and you will survive.

Kanae lifted her white muzzle into the air. The smell of summer was heavy in the air and the white fae was glad of it. For many days she craved the heat that the season brought. Even though she loved the snow, the green of the grass in summer made her the happiest she ever was for the year. Her plumy white tail wagged back and forth as she thought of how great she could make the Silver Snows Pack. No one had joined the pack yet but she knew that someone would soon. It had always been her dream to become a great leader like her father.

Insects moved through the grass as the female walked. She was thirsty and therefore, she was headed towards the river that wound deep into her new found territory. Would the river attract more wolves? Kanae certainly hoped so. For now, she was content to be alone if that was what she had to be. Dipping her head, she took a large swig of water in order to quench the thirst.

He had been travelling for many a day now. Weary and tired, Gale shuffled his paws along the grass covered ground as he walked along. It was a warm day, almost hot. Why he kept traversing through this heavily forested land which lay on a mountain. Since he was alone, small prey sufficed to keep away his hunger. Though, today could be the end of all of that. He knew there was a wolf somewhere here. A fae too. She had set down a large territory, especially for a lone she-wolf. Maybe there were more wolves here but he doubted it.

His head lifted higher when he caught a fresher scent of her. Even his pawsteps increased in vigor. This could be his last chance to get a pack for himself and there was no way he'd let it disappear. After all, he was a lone wolf who wished to settle down in his own territory. Even if he started at a lower rank, he'd be glad enough to at least stay. Finally, Gale caught sight of her and he felt his heart thud heavily in his chest. She certainly was beautiful. Her coat was a pristine white, like the purest ivory. She was tiny in size with a compact shape. Instantly, he was entranced by her beauty. It hurt to look at her; he wondered what would happen if he talked to her.

"Excuse me?" Gale approached her and sat across the river.

Kanae lifted her head slowly from the river's chilly embrace. Her dark chocolate orbs locked onto the wolf who had spoken. The brute sat across from her, his smokey eyes also on her. Was he examining her? Looking for a potential mate perhaps? Well, he would not find one here. This female was far too fiesty to be tied down to a wandering male. Though, he was handsome with powerful looking shoulders. His fur was an off-white colour with grey mixed in.

She had to calm herself before she spoke the words that could banish the male from the territory forever. She needed a pack and here was someone who could be a part of it. Taking a deep breath, she exhaled slowly. Asking someone to join Silver Snows pack could prove difficult for the headstrong female but she was sure she could do it. All she needed to do was pretend to be her father.

"Hello." Kanae spoke with a warm, friendly tone. "I am Kanae, alpha female of the Silver Snows Pack. I was wondering if you'd like to become a part of it. Assuming that you're interested of course."

Inwardly, the fae scolded herself. She should have waited for him to introduce himself and stated his buisness here before she offered him a position in the pack. Oh well, what's done is done, she thought as she awaited the brute's answer. A flicker of hope surged in her chest as she imagined having some other to talk to. Another pack member to share stories with and to have hunts.

"Hello. I am Kanae, alpha female of the Silver Snows Pack. I was wondering if you'd like to become a part of it. Assuming that you're interested of course."

Gale looked at Kanae in surprised. This really was the last thing the male expected, especially from her. It had appeared most likely the he would be driven off or tolerated before being forced to leave. To settle down in a pack was initially what he wanted. Could this be the chance he wanted so badly? It appeared to be so.

"My name is Gale." He replied slowly and making sure that he truly did want to stay. "I will remain here. What ranks do you have for wolves to take?"

Kanae thought for a moment. What were the ranks her father told her about? They used to be so fresh in her mind but with Gale standing right there, inquiring about it, she completely forgot. Some Alpha she was.

"We have Guardians, Sentinels, Hunters, Warriors, Soothsayer, and Healer." She listed off as quickly as they came to mind. The ranks she left out were the Dominant Male, Betas, and the Deltas. She would hand pick the wolves for those positions later. It seemed like the best idea anyway.

Blue crouched into the tall grass, her brilliant blue eyes locked on the furry creature that sat only yards infront of her nose. She couldn't help but drool in anticipation. The hare went about its business, nibbling at the fresh grass innocently. Blue reached a paw forward, slowly taking a silent step to her prey, when the snap of a twig brought her dinner to full alert. The hare quickly rose to its hind legs, its breathing visibly doubling due to its instant acceleration in heart beats. It quickly turned its head in random directions, ears perked and body completely frozen. Blue held her breath, nervously hoping it hadn't caught her scent. Her prey turned and faced her directly, those rodent bug-eyes filled with fear, and she snapped. Blue leapt out from the grass, aiming to crush the hare's spine with her paws, but it was too fast. The hare bolted through the forest, leaving Blue in hot persuit of its trail. Blue weaved through the trees, her eyes locked on to the white bobbing tail of the hare. She ran harder, almost close enough to snatch it up in her jaws when-

It fled to a hole in the ground. Blue scowled and clawed bitterly at the dirt, but no avail. She sighed and stood in the sounds of the forest. The birds seemed to be mocking her, with their annoying chirps and caws. She lifted her head, turning it away from the forest and to the clearing, when she spotted two wolves nearby the river. A male and a female. Blue shrugged, and began walking away, they were probably mates, and she didn't want to bother them. Unfortunaly, misfortune had different ideas. Blue took a step foward, slipping on a rock and landing flat on her face. But, that wasn't the end of it, for the hill produced enough momentum to launch her tumbling down, colliding with the brute that sat at the river, and sending him into the river. She got up slowly and shook her head, before looking up at the pair with horror striken eyes after realizing what she had done.

Kanae had patiently been waiting for Gale's reply when a sudden noise brought her attention elsewhere. It sounded like dull claws scraping along stone as one fought for balance. Her chocolate gaze swiftly turned to where a wolf was rolling down a hill and right into Gale. The brute was knocked into the water and Kanae had to fight back laughter. Never had she seen a more amusing sight. The wolf who had barreled into Gale was a female. One with gorgeous blue eyes and a mostly white coat that was topped with a dark shade of grey. There were several sections of her fur that appeared almost silver-like and Kanae felt envious. This wolf held herself upright like she was born to lead. Or so it appeared from Kanae's perspective.

"Hi there." She greeted, still choking her laughter back though a smile graced her features. "I'm Kanae. Leader of the Silver Snows Pack."

She decided to take a friendly approach. After all, the female across the river from her seemed like she would be a good pack member to have and an even better companion. For some reason, Kanae was compelled to make this wolf one of her friends at the least.

"We have Guardians, Sentinels, Hunters, Warriors, Soothsayer, and Healer."

Gale's reply was cut short as something sent him into the river. The water did not soak his fur thanks to its waterproof properties but he still did not like being there. Once he head was above the surface again, he shook it in order to get rid of all the water. A cold glare was sent to the fae would had rolled right into him. Smokey grey eyes were dark with dislike and it seemed like thunder clouds were inside of his irises. Dragging himself out of the body of liquid, he shook his fur and made sure the droplets landed on the one who put them there. Had Gale's fur been dry it would be bristling, but with the mass of the water, it was weighed down.

"Watch where you're going!" He said with a half hearted growl. "I think guardian would suit me the best."

Oh, the brute certainly wasn't happy with her, was he? But it wasn't her fault. The fae seemed to be stifling her laughter. She looked up at Blue with a smile, relieving some of Blue's nervousness. The white she-wolf greeted her, "Hi there, Im Kanae, Leader os the Silver Snows Pack." The soaked brute just snapped, "Watch where you're going!" and seemed to imediantly forget she was even there, turning to talk to Kanae about something with guardians. Probably figured she would appologize and leave. Well, that wasn't her style.

Blue frowned and pulled back her ears, "It was an accident, Mr. Sunshine," she huffed, ignoring the death glare she recieved. She turned to the fae, as she much prefered her attitude to the male's. "Pleasure to meet you Kanae. My name is Blue." She paused for a moment, deciding she didn't want to come off as rude, " Sorry if I was interupting something..."

"Oh, no need to worry about that, Blue." Kanae replied with another smile. "Gale and I were just talking. If you're interested, I'd like to extend my invitation to join the Silver Snows Pack."

The young alpha truly hoped that the pretty fae would consider joining. She liked Blue even though she did not yet know her. There would be a place for Blue in the pack. Kanae wrapped her long, plumy tail around her paws as she sat herself down. If both Gale and Blue decided to stay, she would no longer be alone. She dearly hoped that others would soon follow.

Kanae's chocolate brown orbs shifted to another male wolf who sat only a meter or so away. It seemed as if he wanted to attract attention to himself. Maybe to make sure he didn't seem to be a threat? That seemed like the most plausible answer. The young alpha dipped her head in a friendly greeting towards him. When she attempted to look at him--appearance wise--she was startled by his eyes. They were a yellow with a tinge of orange. Never had she seen eyes like them.

The fae pulled her attention away from his eyes and flicked her tail tip in a gesture that invited him over. He didn't need to be so far away if he didn't want to.

When the male looked up at her, Kanae took a deep breath. His eyes were gorgeous. Normally, she would feel threatened when another looked straight into her brown pools of chocolate but she could almost sense his nervousness. She was not sure why he felt like that because she was not a large wolf; she did not pose much of a threat towards others. The only reason others followed her was because she knew how to treat everyone fairly.

"Hello there. I am Kanae." She introduced herself with a warm, friendly tone in hopes that it would ease the tension in his body. The alpha did not show submission towards the wolf even though she had the notion it could help with making him even more comfortable. Rather, she held her chin high and wagged her tail like a metronome.

"Josh."

Kanae smiled kindly. There was still some tension in Josh's body but most has disappeared. She was attempting to make him feel as comfortable as she could. Though the young alpha was wondering why he still remained tense. Was it because of all the wolves? Or were their different reasons that did not cross her mind? The former didn't seem to apply to him since he wouldn't have made his presence known if it were true.

"It's a pleasure to meet you, Josh." Kanae shook her head and neck. The spray of the water was slowly accumulating onto her fur and she felt the need to be rid of it. "What brings you here? Are you simply passing through or are you seeking to settle down?" She hoped that it was the latter. If it were, she would extend her invitation to join if he wanted to stay.

"And you." He said with a dip of his head. "I was hoping to stay."

Kanae felt another smile dancing on her lips. Today was a good day. Three wolves had ventured into the territory and now might be interested in joining the pack. And her brother had thought she would never amount to anything. He always told her that she was no Lance and therefore said nothing good would ever happen to her. The only reason she had remained with the pack was for her mother and at times, her father. When Yvonne passed on, Kanae no longer had the ties that could make her stay.

"If you'd like, you could stay here and become a member of the Silver Snows Pack." Kanae offered with a lot of hope in her voice. The memories of the past were still swimming in her mind but they were less evident now. They were thoughts that were no longer needed. After all, she thought that one day she could be more than Wes thought.

"I'd love nothing more." He smiled with a unique wolfy grin that was so rarely seen.

"Allow me to welcome you to the pack, Josh. It's a pleasure to have you." Kanae wagged her tail slowly in a perfect time. She was glad to have this wolf in the pack. "What skills do you possess?"

Lance had asked that question many times to newcomers; she felt the need to at least see what would happen if she tried. She may not hold the dominant posture that her father always seemed to have, but she had his patience. Her plumy tail wrapped around her paws once more as she listened quietly. To Josh and the others, she would show them the same respect that they showed her. She was not Wes; she did not need to rule with fear and brute strength.

"Oh, no need to worry about that, Blue." Kanae replied with another smile. "Gale and I were just talking. If you're interested, I'd like to extend my invitation to join the Silver Snows Pack."

Blue paused for a moment. The idea of joining a pack never occured to her. She had been a free bird up until this point, only looking out for herself. She glanced over at the still soaking wet brute. So his name is Gale, huh? Smirking, Blue got the feeling this wouldn't be the last time he would growl at her.

Blue lifted her eyes once again to the white she-wolf, not missing the overwhelming glimmer of hope that sparkled in her chocolate eyes. It caught her off guard. A question arose in her brain then, asking, was Kanae all alone out here? Something in her compeled Blue to feel like she should be friendlier with this fae, unlike her usual treatment of her own gender. She smiled warmly and opened her mouth to answer Kanae's invitation, when she saw another brute approaching them.

He seemed to catch Kanae's attention immediantly, a spark of pure intrest lighting her eyes. Blue promtly shut her mouth, staring at the stranger. "Hello there, I am Kanae." the she-wolf greeted. The brute shifted a bit, he seemed nervous, for some reason... "Josh." he responded, his tone relaxed. He must have a great poker face, she thought.

Unsure if the pair would even hear her, as they seemed to be off in their own little world, Blue decided to break the ice, " Uh... hey i'm Blue," she said slowly at first, then thought to add a bit of comical release, " And Mr. Sunshine over there is Gale."

Kanae turned her gaze back to Blue and she laughed lightly at her introduction of Gale. At the moment, the fae would laugh at anything. She was in such a good mood. Gracefully, she stood and flicked Blue's flank with her tail. It was a signal that her offer still stood and that she hoped it would be accepted. Her laughing orbs went between Gale, Blue, and Josh. They could become her pack, her family.

Blue couldn't help but raise an eyebrow. "Everything." This guy seemed pretty full of himself. The statement itself would probably go up into the top ten comments of cockiness. She glanced back to Kanae and sighed. If she wanted to be in a pack with these wolves, she would need to play nicely. Blue supposed she didn't even know the brute well enough to judge him anyway. Maybe he was fairly decent at everything...

She shifted her gaze to the ground. Perhaps she should reconsider joining a pack. She wasn't quite a social butterfly... Gah, stupid rabbit, stupid rock, stupid lack of grace... Blue frowned deeply lifting her eyes to the woods, where she had first, uhm... 'arrived.' A sudden thought popped into her mind. Kanae seemed to attract quite a few males to her presence. What would happen to her if Blue left? Well of course she could protect herself and all, but if a few more boys showed up... ones with less than innocent intentions... Blue swallowed, clearing away her thoughts. It's settled then, Blue needed to stay so Kanae wouldn't be left alone with a bunch of brutes.

Blue gave into a small smile, feeling as if she was glowing a bit. It was nice to have a new purpose, one other than making sure she survived the day. But, how would she fit into a pack? ...could her gift help her here? After all, her gift is the very same thing that chased her out of her birth pack.

The air was feeling a bit tight around them, causing Blue the need to say something. "Everything, huh? No it's ok, no need to be modest." She said, rolling her eyes.

"Everything." He answered.

Sentinel. The thought popped into Kanae's mind as soon as Josh finished speaking. That was a rank that was difficult to keep up with since they need to be able to do, well everything. Her father had been a Sentinel once before he created the Blackfang Pack. Lance used all of the old ranks in his newly created pack which didn't cause a problem. It was so much easier for the wolves to be able to categorize themselves into different roles in the pack.

"Everything, huh? No it's ok, no need to be modest." She said, rolling her eyes.

Kanae couldn't help but grin at Blue's words. The young alpha adored how the fae was so straight forward and said whatever was on her mind. She also seemed to know what to say and when. It was so easy to let the tension disappear when Blue was around and with that though, Kanae knew she definitely wanted the pretty female to stay here.

"Shhh. He might throw you into the river with Gale." Kanae warned in a teasing tone. Her chocolate orbs looked at where Gale was still in the river.
